5ideas Startup Superfuel founder Gaurav Kachru has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of India Today’s e-commerce venture Bag It Today. (Thanks for the anonymous tip, whoever you are).
Kachru has confirmed this to Medianama. He also mentioned that he will continue as the founder and advisor of 5ideas Startup Superfuel, the seed fund launched by Kachru and Pearl Uppal in September 2012.
According to our sources, erstwhile Bag It Today CEO and India Today Group Digital COO Salil Kumar has been moved to the India Today group and will be reporting to India Today Group Chief Creative Officer Kalli Purie. However, this hasn’t been confirmed and Kumar declined to comment on this to Medianama.
Kumar had joined as the CEO of Bag It Today in November 2010 after a brief stint at Microsoft, following his move from NDTV Convergence last year. At NDTV Convergence, he was believed to have been responsible for chalking out the mobile strategy. Prior to this, he was with Bharti Airtel, where he was GM (Strategic Alliances and Business Development). He’s also worked at Hungama and HT Media.
As for Kachru, he was the Group Executive Vice President – Corporate Development & Strategy at the Smile Group before exiting the company in June 2012 and launching 5ideas Startup Superfuel. He was also the co-founder and CEO of the Smile Group’s deal site DealsAndYou.com. He had taken over as the CEO at DealsAndYou in November 2010 after the exit of DealsAndYou ‘s other co-founder and CEO Guneet Singh.
Bag It Today currently offers time-limited deals and discounts on products across various categories like gadgets, apparel, bags, jewellery, home decor, electronics, shoes and fashion accessories among others.
