Hyderabad-based SONG Advisors has made two fresh investments — secondary healthcare hospital Be Well Hospitals and potato supply chain management company SV Agri Processing, reports VCCircle. Both investments appear to be Series A round deals but the amounts invested have not been disclosed. The Be Well Hospitals investment was made in December last year and the SV Agri Processing investment was made last July, says the SONG Advisors website.
Be Well Hospitals is a chain of secondary care hospitals that caters to low-income consumers in in Tier II and Tier III cities. The company was founded by CJ Vetrivel and C Lakshmanan. The model appears to be similar to the one pursued by Bangallore-based Vaatsalya Healthcare, the first such hospital chain to come up in the country. SV Agri Processing is an end-to-end potato supply chain management company, which sources potatoes from the farmers and ensures delivery to processors and retail clients. It currently ties in 5,000 farmers and plans to reach 20,000 farmers. The company was founded by Hemant Gaur and Ganesh Pawar.
SONG Advisors is backed by Google, Omidyar Networks and Soros Economic Development Fund. The firm manages a corpus of $17 million. It invests in small and medium enterprises that address social impact.
