Trekurious.com raises first round from Blue Ocean Ventures

Trekurious.com, a Sri Lanka-based online travel firm, raised their first round of funding from Blue Ocean Ventures, according to media reports. The Colombo-based venture capital fund, with a focus on seed investments, is promoted by Rajan Anandan, managing director at Google India and Prajeeth Balasubramaniam, noted Sri-Lanka based angel investor.

Trekurious.com, founded by Rukmankan Sivaloganathan and Dilendra Wimalasekere, is operationally present only in Sri Lanka, but wants to expand to India and some parts of Asia. The firm offers experiential tours, including culinary, through dinners and masterclasses with cricket stars and other celebrities.

Sri-Lankan-born Rajan Anandan has so far invested in about 20 Indian startups, in segments such as software, Internet and mobile with, Chandigarh-based education services startup wiziq.com, being among his first investments.

Till date, significant deals between Indian travel portals and institutionalised investors include Gurgaon-based Yatra.com raising Rs 200 crore from blue chip investors including Valiant Capital Management, Norwest Venture Partners and Mumbai-based, Cleartrip raising $40 million from Concur Technologies. The Cleartrip deal is considered among the single largest private investment in an Indian online travel startup so far.
