redBus hits 1 crore ticket sales; 2 mn registered users

Bangalore-based redBus.in announced today that that it has sold more than one crore bus seats in India and has achieved a 2 million registered customer  base. This puts redBus.in amongst one of the top transacted web-sites in the country.

Bus travel has been growing at 25 per cent every year and has become a preferred mode of transport. This is because, for several routes like ‘Bangalore-Chennai’ and ‘Ahmedabad-Mumbai’, bus travel takes the same time as air travel does. On top of that, luxury buses such as Volvo and Mercedes provide unmatched executive class comfort to bus travelers. These trends have enabled the company to grow at average rate of 250 per cent year-on-year for the last five years.

“In simple terms, when a customer thinks of bus travel, redBus.in is the first thing on their mind. We are the only website which rates buses on their punctuality and staff behavior so customers make informed decisions when buying ticket,” Phanindra Sama, founder and CEO, redBus.in, said in a press release issued today.

The company offers ticket booking services through its website and over the telephone number 394-12345. Customers can also get bus tickets delivered to their homes and pay with a wide range of payment options including cash-on-delivery. It currently enables the booking of tickets for over 1.8 lakh bus routes across India operated by more than 700 bus operators.

I guess you meant bus travel takes same time as *train* travel for the Bangalore-Chennai and Ahmedabad-Mumbai routes; and not “air” travel
