Echelon 2011, a two-day annual startup conference that serves as a launchpad for Asia’s hottest Internet and mobile startup ventures, gets underway on June 16 and 17 in Singapore. The conference, organized by e27, a Singapore-based media organization focused on Asian technology startups, attracts over 1,000 delegates, features a startup demo-pit and various workshops.
The key attraction of the conference is Startup Launchpad, which provides 10 startups from the region an opportunity to pitch their businesses to a live audience and an experts panel. Startups need to be 12 months old or less, based in Asia and working on web and mobile-based technologies to be eligible for Launchpad.
The 10 companies (this year they have 11) are chosen from a total of 40 who are shortlisted via four satellite pitch events held earlier at Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Honk Kong. The winner takes home prizes from sponsors and partners such as Yahoo! and AppSumo. This year, Mumbai-based Spatial Ideas, a GIS (geographical information systems) startup, is the only Indian company to make it to the Top 10 list. Read more on them at VCCircle here.
At Echelon 2011, Spatial Ideas will showcase LocoBuzz, a data fusion application that enables users to map Facebook and Twitter updates from across the world. The company was founded in 2009 by software engineer Vishal Agrawal after brief stints at ESRI, Cognizant and Rolta.
Other companies shortlisted this year:
FetchFans (Singapore), Moglue (Korea), JellyBus (Korea), Sixreps (Indonesia), Second CRM (Malaysia), Cardinal Blue (Taiwan), Bouncity (Indonesia), WorkCrowd (Malaysia), PriceArea (Indonesia) and PlayMoolah (Singapore).
Startupcentral will bring you more stories from ground zero at Echelon 2011. Stay tuned.
