No Free Lunches

osmosis08Is the slowdown beginning to hurt the startup unconferencing circuit?

BarCamp Pune 5 concluded on November 29 and I was just checking out the wiki (while searching for events to write about) and it goes: no free T-shirt (don’t sponsors usually pay for the Tshirts that never quite fit?), no free pen, notepad and stickers (can live with that) and hello! no free lunch! — you will never get journalists to cover your gigs if there is no free food (or was that the idea? :-) ). Jokes apart, hopefully the slowdown will not dampen the unconferencing spirit that has played a big role in bringing entrepreneurship back to life in India in the past couple of years.

Couple of smaller events coming up this weekend:

Startup Saturday Mumbai: The December 13 edition is a little more heavy duty than usual. There’s a panel discussion on ‘What Should a Startup Do in a Slowdown’ and Seedfund’s Mahesh Murthy and IDG Ventures’ Hemir Doshi are the two venture capitalists/ investor voices on the panel.

Osmosis 2008: Hosted by MindTree Consulting at its West Campus in Bangalore, this is the company’s annual technology festival. The event was launched in 2005 and last year saw the inclusion of an ‘unconference’ on the final day. Head towards Mysore Road this Saturday (December 13) if you’re in Bangalore.
